Saltford, Bristol
A large village it may be but Saltford has a vibrant community; being surrounded by the lush countryside of the Avon valley, it has a distinctly rural feel, despite being conveniently situated alongside the A4 roughly midway between Bath and Bristol. The River Avon winds its way along the edge of the village, home to otters, swans and kingfishers; the hills and fields stretch out beyond, and all feels well.
Not surprisingly, Saltford is one of the most sought-after places to live in this neck of the woods; it’s a good place to live, work and visit and so people come here at weekends to escape the nearby cities. They come to stroll along the river, to cycle long the Bristol to Bath Railway Path, to enjoy themselves kayaking and paddleboarding and to soak up the peace and the charm by the weir.
You’ll like it, so do go and have a little explore when you’re staying at Bluehaven on your large group holidays in the UK; take a wander round the village and see the lovely old houses – one is a medieval manor that’s thought to be the oldest continually occupied house in England. You can follow one of the village history walks, go and see the Victorian Brass Mills and have a browse in the shops. Rumbling tums can be satisfied with a leisurely lunch at one of the 4 pubs in the village; come back in the evening for authentic Bengal cuisine at Golden Moments, or go to The Thai Saltford. Fill your bellies then amble back to Bluehaven for a nightcap by the firepit before you turn in. It’s the kind of stuff that happy large group holidays are made of.
